We will perform Suspended Moment in Portland on August 9, Nagasaki Commemoration Day. We’re grateful to the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) for a grant to support this performance.

Where: University of Oregon Portland’s Light Court Commons, 70 NW Couch Street

When: August 9, 7-8 p.m.

The performance will follow an event to commemorate Hiroshima and Nagasaki, From Despair to Hope, at the Japanese American Historical Plaza (NW Naito Parkway) from 6 to 7 p.m.

The performance will be preceded by a three-day workshop in Butoh dance, led by Meshi Chavez. Butoh asks dancers to meet each moment with curiosity, thus creating the “suspended moment.” Workshop takes place Friday, August 4th: 6:30-9:00 pm; Sat, the 5th & Sunday, the 6th, 2 pm-5 pm. Butoh is accessible to people of all physical abilities. $95-$150 sliding scale for the workshop. Financial assistance is available. Register at meshichavez@icloud.com
